• RADIOGRAPHIC TESTING – RT/DIGITAL X-RAY
Volumetric errors in components can be determined particularly well by means of energy-rich radiation (X-rays and gamma radiation).
In this testing, the rays penetrate the workpiece and are weakened to differing degrees as a function of the inhomogeneities. The film installed behind the component (storage phosphor) is blackened by the radiation that impacts against it and allows a standard-compliant statement regarding errors in the radiographed workpiece.
Schmitt NDT GmbH also deploys digital radiography; here, the classic film is substituted by a special storage phosphor. This storage phosphor is read out and then delivers a digital radiographic image. In this form, the images can be automatically evaluated and archived well. The system offers advantages by reducing the exposure time and an improved evaluation possibility compared to the classic film. This technique is used e.g. in refineries as part of analyses using shadow imaging.

• The Schmitt special collimator SSC allows radiographic testing with an extremely reduced control area limit using radiation protection mats.
PERMITS AND APPROVALS:
Schmitt NDT GmbH possesses domestic and foreign permits as well as approvals for handling, storing and transporting X-ray systems and gamma ray radiography devices. An indispensable requirement is the careful handling of these radiation sources by trained and supervised employees who possess the experience to comply with all the regulations under radiation protection law as well as the safety regulations. This applies both to small building sites operated in daily use and to large building sites. Modern laboratory vehicles, laboratory trailers and laboratory containers with air-conditioned rooms are available for this.
